Our Life By The Sea

Meet The Author

I live by the beach with my wife, Fidge, and our German Shepherd Dog, Lizzie, on the North East coast of England.

Our home is tucked behind the sand dunes, and we are truly fortunate to have the beautiful coastal environment and its diverse wildlife right on our doorstep.

Creative Work

I currently work as a registered nurse in a local NHS Hospital, but spend as much of my spare time as I can being creative.

I also enjoy photography and flying drones to capture video and stills.

My life has been full of creative practice. Creativity is inherent to my well-being.

Previously, I travelled as a photographer
working with German Shepherds at major events, including dog sports and shows,
across the UK, Scandinavia, Western
Europe, and the USA.

Previous Books

In the early 2000s, I was sponsored by Arden Grange, a major UK Pet Food Company, to publish two large publications about German Shepherd Dogs.

I also created a children’s book featuring a German Shepherd Dog, which was the catalyst to complete a Fine Art Degree approximately a decade ago.

Graphic Design
and Website Design

In the past, in the pre Ai days, I also worked as a freelance graphic designer for the Methodist Church and The Church of Scotland, and various other organisations, creating advertisements, flyers, banners, branding, and logos.

And or over 20 years, I ran my own small business, creating and hosting approx 40+ websites for individuals, ‘Show Dog’ kennels, boarding kennels, cat breeders and other independent canine and cat businesses across the UK, Europe and Australia.

This included creating and hosting the websites for Dr Clauder’s, a major European Pet food company, when they commenced trading in Italy, Ireland and the UK.

Funky Icons

I led art workshops for children and adults at large youth events such as ‘Go Large’ and ‘3 Generate’, and as part of retreats for the C of E and The Methodist Church.

I also created ‘Funky Icons’ on commission.

I created a whole series of Funky Icons for St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School in Newcastle, on a theme of Pilgrimage. They wanted tactile symbols of pilgrimage, crosses that their pupils could hold, carry, and touch. The school also commissioned a very large Angel of the North Funky Icon for their school entrance foyer.

I was also commissioned to create the C of E, Diocese of Newcastle’s Christmas card at this tme.

“The book has the potential to become as important & influential to children with autism as ‘I had a black dog’ by Matthew Johnstone did for men with depression. From the illustrations, through the warm and meaningful words, to the characters themselves (especially Bess) this book is a triumph and celebration of everything individual and unique.
